Apparently, having a baby requires that you go back to school. (Not such a problem for me, as I am totally in school mode!) Tonight, we signed up for three prenatal classes: Baby Care, Preparing for Childbirth, and a Hospital Tour.
Baby Care will be good for us to get ready for a new little person. It teaches you how to bathe a newborn (which I haven’t done since nursing school), swaddle, feed, and generally care for an infant. And we’ll learn infant behaviors and learn about safety and health promotion (because it’s never too early to start talking to your kids about smoking and their cholesterol levels!) 🙂
Preparing for Childbirth is a Lamaze class. We’re going to do the weekend intensive program in April, because there’s no way we can find four consecutive weeks to be able to attend! I think it’s the usual Lamaze class of relaxation and “comfort techniques” — such a funny term. It seems there’s some hee-hee-hooooooo in my future. I keep telling myself that everyone will be doing it, so I won’t feel as silly as I do just thinking about it! And I’m sure there’s a video involved — I hope Rob doesn’t fall over!! Just kidding — mostly. 🙂
And finally, the Hospital Tour. We get to see what a Real! Live! hospital room looks like! And probably the OR and Triage and stuff. That’ll be nice. Not much to say about that, huh?
Oh — I learned something while perusing the Magee Hospital website. You can order a celebratory dinner to be delivered to your room after the birth, complete with lobster, filet mignon, and champagne! I find it absolutely hysterical to think that the cafeteria people are whipping up a little lobster for New Mommy and Daddy in room 3421 and putting a freshly cut rose on the tray. Does the tray come on a little silver service or does it get taken off the industrial food service cart that all hospitals use? The image is too funny.
