One Fish, Two Fish

Polling for Gender January 16, 2008

All is well. My tummy measures 21 cm for 21 weeks, my weight is good, my blood pressure was 124/70. Everything is perfect. I met a new doctor today — Dr. Swanson. He was all business, but nice. The appointment took all of ten minutes. This was the first appointment Rob couldn’t go to, and he didn’t miss a thing!

Now… let’s have a little friendly wager as to whether the baby is a boy or girl, based on the heart rate. Please leave your guess in the comments. Here are the heart rates we have so far:

11 weeks — 167
15 weeks — 156
21 weeks — 151

Boy or Girl??

  7. abigail Says:

hmmm…. what are you supposed to be able to tell based on heart-rate? I’ll mix it up for fun and say, “BOY!” or, even better, despite the pictures, “twins! one of each.”

  8. leighnut Says:

    Abigail, I think you’re Rob’s new best friend! πŸ™‚

OK, I’m finally ready to weigh in on this very important subject. The old OB wisdom was that heart rates over 140 were predictive of a girl, but any number of folks will tell you that that didn’t hold true for them. I just checked out heart rates predicting sex; there are a ton on sites on that subject, but the only one that seemed to have some science behind it said that heart rates were only predictive up to 9 weeks gestation.

And so, dear Rob and Kristin….we hope that your baby is a strong, smart, beautiful, funny, and thoroughly charming boy or girl!

  10. Christine Says:

Girl. I have ALWAYS thought so.

    Sorry, Rob! πŸ™‚
