Oatmeal

One of the criteria for judging the quality of an institution should be the quality of their oatmeal, because breakfast is the most important meal of the day. In this case, Magee would FAIL. Fortunately, the cream of wheat is palatable. So they’ve got that going for them.

Week 31

I tried to post this last night, but the Pregnancy Weekly website wouldn’t open! Here’s the latest and greatest…

“Your baby now weighs approximately 3.5 pounds, measures about 18 inches from head to toe, and is getting used to the world of light and dark by opening and closing its eyes. Its facial muscles continue to strengthen, and your baby can make different expressions.”

Last night I had a dream that I heard the baby crying through my belly. It was weird!

Uncooperative March 29, 2008

Rob is here all day. Woo hoo! He went with me to my regularly scheduled ultrasound today to see the baby and get more 3D pictures, because now 2D is just so unsatisfying. The baby would not flip around to show his/her face. Bad baby! We do have a cute picture of little hands, which is nice, but I was so disappointed that Rob didn’t get to see the face magically appear. The good news is that the baby passed the BPP (Biophysical Profile) with flying colors once again. Good baby!

We’ve had a very sleepy day today. Slept until 11:00 this morning (we are slugs) and took a long afternoon nap (big slugs). It was lovely. Dinner is coming from the outside world tonight and the evening holds Phase 10 tournaments, where I will win big time. If you do not know the game Phase 10, please drop everything you’re doing and run to your local Target to the game section and pick up a deck of Phase 10 cards. You’ll want to quit life, put on sweatpants, and play Phase 10 until your eyes bleed.

The Important Stuff March 28, 2008

OK, let’s get down to the important stuff: my NCAA bracket. I am not doing well this year. There have been many upsets this year that I did not anticipate. A 5 seed is always upset by a 12 seed, for example. But this year, there were 11 seeds upsetting 6 seeds — that’s just not normal! I should mention that the way I fill out my bracket has nothing to do with stats or projections or anything rational like that. I choose my teams based on my emotional attachment to them (Wisconsin wins the whole thing in my world), whether or not I like the name of their school (Austin Peay loses because they just don’t have enough consonants in their name) and how I feel at the moment I fill out the bracket. It’s all very scientific. In my head, anyway.

If Wisconsin doesn’t win tonight, it’s over for my bracket, since I have them winning the championship game. And I really need Xavier to pull out all the stops tomorrow night because I have them upsetting UCLA. I know, I know, that’s just crazy. But that’s my bracket. Crazy!

Stupid Schedule March 27, 2008

Who ever thought that drawing someone’s blood at four in the morning was a good idea?!? Midnight seems much more reasonable. At least I could go to sleep afterwards and get a few hours in a row. Maybe they plan it this way to get you ready for a newborn in the house. 🙂

Obviously, I didn’t sleep well last night. Again. I finally fell asleep around 3:00 a.m., only to be woken up with the nurse saying in her outside voice that it was TIME TO DRAW MY BLOOD. Just in case I couldn’t hear her in a normal tone of voice, I guess. It only took one poke, which was a nice surprise, but I still was too awake to fall back to sleep immediately. Then not long after that started the parade of residents and doctors and more blood pressure checks. I slept between interruptions until 11:30 this morning. I am such a slug. If this keeps up, I’m going to be up all night and sleep all day! 🙂

Nursing students came in again today. They were all excited to hear my heart murmur. Oooh! Adventitious heart sounds! I let them all listen one by one. Each one had a “stethoscope face” that came out when listening intently. It was really funny. Kind of like my “piano-playing face.”

Breakfast was at noon today. Lunch will be around five, probably, which means that dinner will be the very European hour of 10 pm. Stupid schedule. 🙂

Eyelashes March 26, 2008

Baby has Rob’s long eyelashes. And the Erickson chin! You may be wondering how I know this. Well, I have eight 3D ultrasound pictures of a beautiful baby! I went down for my regular Wednesday ultrasound, and the tech was doing her thing. She asked if anyone had done a 3D ultrasound yet. I said no. She said ok and continued doing her measurements. Then she jumped up and said, “I’ll be right back. I’m going to get the 3D probe.” When she came back she started taking pictures of the baby’s face in 3D. It was incredible. One of the pictures shows the baby with the Elvis curled lip. Pete, that one’s for you! 🙂 The tech said, “You know, most of the babies don’t look this cute. I just can’t stop taking pictures!” So. We have a cute baby. Oh, you’ll all be proud to know that I didn’t even cry while seeing the images. I am all about Zen blood pressures. 🙂

Rob brought in the cutest little preemie sleeper outfit last night. It’s light green with little frogs on it with footies that are shaped like frog faces. I have it hanging on the hook in my room. Everyone who’s come in the door today has beelined to it and commented on how cute it is. Good shopping, Rob!
