The Plan: Frivolous Spending March 3, 2008

Do you know what this is?

That’s $305.70 in change and a couple of dollar bills.

See that cute little urn next to it? That’s where the money has been living until yesterday. Because we spent it. On something we didn’t need. That was the plan all along; frivolous spending. We considered our options carefully:
(1) Get a Wii — because we need more gaming in our lives
(2) Have a couple’s spa day — blow it on massages and facials and stuff
(3) Have a really expensive meal — except I can’t have the expensive wine to go with it
None of them seemed right. What do we want that we don’t need? Hmm…

(Is the suspense killing you yet? Probably not, since you can see the next picture. Rather anticlimactic, huh?)

Here’s what we bought:

It’s a Canon Powershot Elph (with a cute case). We so didn’t need it. We have a digital camera. We wanted a smaller one for travel and those cute little moments at the park when the baby is doing something really cute that we Have. To. Capture. STAT! 🙂

So happy new digital camera to us. And, thank you, Urn, for housing all that change. You deserve a rest — until we fill you up again.

That urn does not seem like it could fit all of that change. Is this picture doctored up? Happy new elph.

That is extremely exciting. Congratulations on the Elph!

Too bad I don’t have an urn full of change. I would really enjoy buying something frivolous right now. 🙂

Drew, that picture is completely accurate. I started collecting spare change when I moved to Madison in 2004. It took about three years to fill it up.

Christine, you need to get an urn and start throwing spare change in there! I bet Willow’s Bend would have something cute. 🙂

Although the Urn looked like it did a good job, I use an old coffee container to house my spare change and that does the trick, too!! 🙂

I had to find something i couldn’t stick my hand in — otherwise I might take a few quarters here and there!

  6. Caitlin Says:

I supposed I should have mentioned that I keep mine hidden in my closet behind my clothes with a lid on it, otherwise I’m sure I would have had the same problem 😉

Ooh, out of sight, out of mind theory. Niiiiice. What are you going to do with the money when you fill up the coffee can?
