We stopped at the local nursery on the way home from our appointment today to pick up some flowers for the front porch pots. Here’s a little rundown of what we got:
1. We chose some snapdragons (love them!) in a fiery pinkish yellowy orange color (Crayola has yet to make that color!) for the large blue pot. The color contrast between the flowers and the pot is absolute perfection.
2. For the long rectangular pot, Rob picked out a combination of white and dark pink impatiens. This container sits under the awnings on the house and doesn’t get much sun, so the impatiens are perfect. Last year, our impatiens were huge. I’d even go so far as to say they were lush. Lush. (I love that word.)
3. For the large clay pot at the top of the stairs, we chose more impatiens. Again, it’s a sun exposure issue — not enough for lots of flowers. This time we picked out the Dazzler Mix — a combination of white, light pink, dark pink, and a magenta hue.
4. And finally, in the small blue pot, the star of the show — the happiest little dahlia you’ve ever seen. It’s a variegated bloom, white with a little pink thrown in at the edges. The thing that’s so great about this dahlia is that it is standing up so straight and I swear, if it had eyes, it would be staring at you with great expectation, like a dog who has just heard the word “walk.”
